Some parts are common features on utility bicycles to increase their usefulness, convenience, protection and visibility, which are also optional additions on sports bicycles. When cycling over damp fields, fenders with spoilers shield the cyclist and moving parts from spray.

To help the rider perform such stunts, or to encourage additional riders to stand or sit, pegs may be fastened to one or both of the wheel hubs. Rear-mounted infant seats, an auxiliary saddle attached to the crossbar or both are often attached by parents to carry them. A trailer for carrying freight, an infant, or both may also be fitted with a hitch to tow bicycles.
